RELI1006 Reasoning for Real World Problem Solving (3 units)
- Medium of Instruction:
- English
This course aims to improve students’ critical thinking and reflective reasoning abilities with a three-pronged approach. First, it will expose students to various theoretical considerations regarding correct reasoning and argumentation, with explicit and emphatic stresses on the commonalities of and distinctions between different types of reasoning. Second, it will provide ample exercises to analyse, evaluate, and construct arguments, both in oral presentations and in writing, so as to make students not only better reasoners, but also better communicators about reasoning. Third, it will illustrate the utility as well as the difficulties of reflective reasoning in real situations of decision making and problem solving, stimulating students to make efforts to apply and hone their reflective thinking skills in real life.
