This course provides an introduction to the creation and use of sequence and time-based media for storytelling and persuasion, as well as its application in advertising, public relations and organisational communication. Building on the foundations for design with discrete media, sequences and time add unique potential for the communication process. Storyboards are sequenced media that have a long history and serve as the basis for content in comics, presentations, film, video and interactive media. Audio is a time-based media and can be the source of drama, action, environment, contrast, feedback and complete messages. Film and video are time-based media that permeate modern life through analog, digital and networked means. Moving pictures have specific grammars and styles for storytelling and persuasion in advertising and public relations industry. Building messages with moving pictures and sound requires planning and development through storyboards. Storytelling serves as the foundation for animation, interactivity and intelligence in both traditional and new media.
