This course will impart the technical and conceptual skills required to create innovative audio experiences in an interactive context. This course will delve into the intricate interplay of sound, technology, and interactivity, with a particular emphasis on applications within the realm of contemporary art and industry. This course will delve into the aesthetic and spatial considerations of interactive audio, examining how sound can be manipulated to craft immersive physical and virtual environments, the role of audience interaction in shaping the sonic experience, and the intricate relationship between audio and other artistic mediums in interactive installations.
The course commences with an in-depth examination of the evolution of interactive audio, highlighting significant technological advancements and artistic movements that have shaped the field in recent years. Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the technical underpinnings of interactive audio, including sound synthesis techniques, audio signal processing, and the intricacies of programming for interactive multimedia environments.
Students will engage in a series of project-based assignments, utilizing these principles to design and complete their own interactive audio experiences. These assignments will necessitate the use of sophisticated software tools for audio programming and manipulation, including but not limited to Max, Ableton Live, Open Sound Control, Touch Designer, Unreal Engine, and various physical computing platforms.
