MUSI3127 Sight and Sound: Great Film Music Collaborations (3 units)
This course will examine the multifaceted relationships between music—and sound more broadly—and the moving image through a survey of representative films and film scores of the 20th and 21st centuries. Through a discussion of the various functions of music from silent film, through classic Hollywood scoring, and in more contemporary approaches that challenge narrative perceptions, students will acquire the skills to critically engage film as a multi-sensory experience, including historical, technological, psychological, philosophical and aesthetic discourses. Previous academic study of music or film is not required.
