In this year-long course, students are expected to apply the domain knowledge and analytic skills they have learnt in the previous two years to propose innovative solutions for tackling the real-world problem they have identified. The course includes regular research seminars, reading or study group meetings, guided study by supervisor(s), independent studies, and fieldwork with industrial/community stakeholders. In the first semester, the course will focus on domain knowledge integration, for the purposes of problem analysis, solution path development, and industry/community involvement. In the second semester, the course will focus more on practice of analytic skills, in order to acquire and consolidate the students’ problem solving ability via reality check (industry and community engagement). During the course, students need to review and revise their working plan timely and critically, based on feedback and suggestions from peers, teachers, and stakeholders, as well as empirical analysis via pilot studies. At the end of the course, students will prepare a rigorous and feasible Problem Solution Proposal for the final year Honours Project.
