GCST3007 Research and Professional Writing (3 units)

This course aims to develop students a basic level of competence in research and to enhance their awareness of the various skills and strategies required in creative, research and professional writings, including: academic journal article, research proposal, professional project funding proposal, social impact statement/narrative, policy brief and report, press release, elevator pitch, evidence-based feature/campaigning articles in newspaper and on social media, etc. In addition to introducing the essential components and requirements for research, the course addresses various elements in the processes of writing, copywriting, presentation, publishing and social marketing. The core research and writing skills students develop in this course will serve them across all academic disciplines in humanities and social sciences and in multiple workplace settings across industries such as creative industry, social service sector, social enterprises, philanthropic sector, political parties, and international organisations.
