GAME3027 Traditional and Experimental Animation (3 units)

This course introduces students to the traditional and exploratory aspects of animation and filmmaking. Major concepts that are addressed include hand drawn animation, stop-motion, cut-out, pixelation, visual music, light painting, rotoscoping and infinite animation. Techniques include digital and analogue practices making use of physical and virtual materials for creating animated exercises.
Exploration of narrative and abstract practices will give students exposure to various outlets for expression and help them understand the breadth of animation practice. The course will include a variety of hands-on exercises and will round out the students experience in making an animated film.
