GAME2005 Drawing Fundamentals for Game Design and Animation (3 units)

This course focuses on essential drawing principles specifically tailored to game design and animation. Students will learn to create accurate spatial perspective drawings, vital for designing immersive game environments and dynamic animated scenes. Emphasis will be placed on observational drawing, enabling students to depict models and objects with precision, including proportions and anatomy relevant to game design and animation. They will develop a solid understanding of line and value application, as well as composition principles to create visually appealing and engaging game designs and animations.
A significant portion of the course will be dedicated to digital drawing methods. Students will gain proficiency in using digital tools and software commonly employed in the game design and animation industries. They will learn to utilize digital drawing tablets and software to create digital artwork, enhancing flexibility and efficiency in the design and animation process.
Throughout the course, students will build a portfolio of original work, demonstrating their progress and ability to apply drawing fundamentals to game design and animation contexts. They will also explore the historical foundations of art and its impact on visual ideas, providing a broader perspective and fostering creative development. Hands-on experience will be maximized through in-class exercises and projects, fostering a deeper understanding and practical application of the learned concepts.
