ENG 7740 Adaptation Studies and World Literature (3 units)
This course foregrounds the tendency of adapting world literature in the twenty-first century. Emphasis will be placed on current perspectives on adaptation studies, the art of adapting a text to different medium, the pros and cons of multiple authorship, the politics of adapting world literature in different contexts, the controversy over (in)fidelity, and the way of audience reception due to various gender, cultural, religious, political thinking. Course material will cover a variety of literary discourses, audio-visual texts, and graphic representations as appropriate to the course content.
