In this course students will learn how to build complex moving image scenes through the compositing and animation of multiple images, text, effects, and video clips in Adobe After Effects and Premiere. Students will be exposed to video art practices and films that use these techniques to help them build on their own interests within the medium as a basis for the final project at the end of the course.
In addition to technical skills, students will learn about concepts relating to contemporary art, collage, montage, animation, narrative, and appropriation, to conceive a greater understanding of how motion and composites can be used to further narrative and concept.
Exercises throughout the course will allow students to develop their technical skills and knowledge and, by course completion, they should be comfortable with conceiving, initiating, and following through with their own projects in After Effects. Being adept in these skills can be further applied within students’ video art making, film production, art installations, and other media art and motion graphics projects.
