This is a foundation course on alternative photographic processes. Based on the knowledge from Analogue Photography, the course will introduce techniques in classical and alternative photographic processes, including cyanotype (dry/wet/bleached/toned), Van Dyke print, salted print, and/or gum dichromate print.
Students will acquire knowledge and technique in various alternative photographic processes and refashion such classical knowledge into contemporary practice. Students will further experiment in analogue technique supported by a digital workflow, for example, digital negatives, and image transfer. Coursework is designed to enhance students’ ability in conceptualising classical printing technique in the context of contemporary art. Upon completing the course, students are expected to be both technically and intellectually prepared for higher-level media arts or graphic arts related courses.
