TRAN3007 Culture and Translation (3 units)

This course introduces students to the relation between culture and translation. It helps students to understand cultures as fluid phenomena, and develop an awareness of the cultural dimensions in translation. It highlights how extra-textual forces such as ideology can influence the way a text is written and translated, and how translators negotiate with those forces. Upon completion of this course, students will appreciate better their role and responsibility as a cultural mediator.
