POLS7010 Advanced China Studies (3 units)

This thematically structured course aims to equip students with theoretical and empirical knowledge of socioeconomic transformations, political culture, and international relations of the People’s Republic of China. It introduces the political structure, changes and continuity in state-society relations, Chinese nationalism and intellectual thinking, and China’s international relations. By examining the interplay among economy, state, society, and international relations, this course will (1) teach students to use political theories, concepts and methods to understand and analyse China’s political structure and international relations; (2) enable students to conduct academic research on Chinese politics and its impacts at multiple levels with empirical rigor and conceptual clarity; and (3) help students to develop a critical perspective to independently evaluate political system and its impacts.
