MUSI1037 Music Technology for Media (3 units)

The aim of the course is to equip the students with relevant practical skills and knowledge required for working in a wide variety of media forms. These include, for example, radio, television, film, video, Internet contents, and video games. Furthermore, the course participants will gain an understanding on the relations between music and media from a historically informed perspective with regards to production, distribution, marketing, and contents consumption. Through a hands-on approach, students will learn to create their own sounds using software such as, for example, virtual instruments, samplers, and synthesis. The course will also provide an insight on the common-practice processes related to producing audiovisual contents such as composition, sound design, and basic sound production techniques (recording and mixing and editing), as well as basic image/film editing techniques (capturing and manipulating photos/moving image).
