GAME4016 Lighting, Rendering and Style (3 units)
This course provides a holistic training for students to approach style and look development in computer generated imagery from both aesthetic and computational perspectives.
Students will apply artistic principles of lighting design to identify and analyse visual references to develop their own unique styles applicable in digital character design and computer animation. Together with the thorough understanding of computational concepts driving computer generated imagery, students can artistically direct and technically fine-tune the digital lighting, rendering, and shading processes to deliver both high quality of photorealistic and non-photorealistic rendered images to achieve their aesthetic and creative objectives.
During the course, students will practice aesthetic judgement and visual development skill using modern renderer through a series of in-class exercises and assignments from which they can gradually cultivate their own original style of computer graphic rendering in animation production.
