EDUC7530 Sociocultural Context of Human Development (3 units)

This course aims at providing a framework for understanding the influence of the sociocultural context on human development. Major socialization agents including the family and the school are examined from a multidisciplinary perspective focusing on the interactive influence between the individual and the society. Specific reference is made to cross-cultural studies. Specifically, this course aims to (1) provide students with knowledge of major sociocultural determinants of human development; (2) increase their understanding of current trends in research on human development and the sociocultural context; and (3) enhance their awareness of the diversity and complexity of the variables in research theories relating to the sociocultural context.
