EDUC2005 Classroom Communication and Management (3 units)
- Medium of Instruction:
- English
This course will focus on the theoretical bases and the implementation of a range of approaches to classroom management and communication in both primary and secondary classrooms. It emphasises preparing teachers in skills and knowledge for creating a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction and effective communication among members of the learning community.
This course adopts a concentric approach to developing participants' understanding of their commitments to the construction of conductive classroom for effective student learning, as well as to the establishment of collaborative efforts with parents in building a school education for the benefits of every child.
Participants will be given opportunities to develop their knowledge and competencies in tackling the problems as an individual teacher in their own classrooms in relation to the broad spectrum of schooling. This course places equal emphasis on the integration of theoretical constructs with participants' personal experience, and the application of the theories in understanding the problems and issues critically.
Specifically, this course aims:
(1) To develop participants' competencies in understanding and tackling the problems related to teachers' commitments to the teaching profession, classroom management and the diverse needs of learners.
(2) To engage participants in a series of reflective activities, examining classroom-based and school-based cases, identifying key features which have impacts on student learning, and proposing solutions which are professionally defensible.
