Today, appropriating existing objects in a work of art is a well-established creative strategy. The integration of such objects in complex creative outcomes range from showing the object out of its intended context to copying or mimicking it through changes in materiality, to combining existing objects to create a new entity.

This course will introduce students to the process of silicone mould making on larger scale by copying one or a variety of existing objects via the process of silicone mould making and fibreglass reinforced epoxy resin casting.

This course aims to provide students with a wider understanding how object appropriation can be used as creative strategy whilst enabling a profound understanding of the technical know-how this technique entails.

All of AVA’s 2000-level courses focus on skill-based training, yet the project assignments within the courses nonetheless require students to also articulate artistic ideas and integrate different skills into a well-planned creative strategy. 

Please note that this course does not include teaching of any computer software. Knowledge of such software is not required to complete the projects but may turn out helpful.
