The Internet has become an important—if not the most important—channel of our media-based communication. And it is the most popular form of hypermedia in our everyday life. Designers and artists need to have special creative and also technical skills to develop concepts in the field of hypermedia. The purpose of this course is to give an introduction to the Internet as an artistic medium and provide a foundation of historical, cultural and technical knowledge related to enable artistic expression and visual communication in the Internet platform.
Students will acquire knowledge of the history and development of Internet and World Wide Web in the context of contemporary art and design. The course will also introduce the basic skills of web page composition, navigation design, together with rich media content. Students will be able to author and produce a small-scale website using editing tools available in the professional design industries.
