This course is an analytical survey of historical and modern approaches to composing music for video games. It introduces students to the unique technological and aesthetic obstacles and concerns game scorers face while writing music for an interactive medium. It also aims to develop students' skills in analysis of music meant to set another medium, so that they will understand and interpret compositional strategies undertaken in response to different technological and aesthetic modes of visuals and gameplay.
