This course introduces students to basic and more advanced journalistic visual storytelling by exploring the history of photojournalism, reviewing the various aspects of contemporary photojournalism for traditional and digital news media, understanding the difference between photojournalism and documentary photography, and more critically analysing the importance and influence that news photography can have on society, business, politics and global issues. Students also will engage in personal practical assignments of news portraiture, single photos, and photographic storytelling, along with understanding and discussing the ethical principles and moral decisions photojournalists have to make.
