GTSC2007 Cyberspace and the Law: Your Rights and Duties (3 units)

This course aims to provide students with a basic knowledge of privileges and freedom in the cyberspace and the behavioural expectations that come with them, from the perspectives of ethical and social and through the laws in Hong Kong. This course covers a collection of privacy law, copyright law, contract law and other laws that have implications for and are therefore relevant to the cyberspace activities. The cross-border jurisdiction issues unique to the cyberspace are also covered. This course is intended for students with little or no legal background. The recent cyber law developments in the European Union and United States will be used to compare throughout the course. Students will be equipped with the ability to critically evaluate the situation in Hong Kong and identify potential areas for further enhancement in the future.
