GAME2017 Transcultural Studies of Animation (3 units)
In this interdisciplinary course students will acquire methodology and theoretical perspectives for critical analysis of animation as a media, a form of communication, a social phenomenon, and a cultural artifact.
Students will learn to critically analyse and interpret the animated content and animation as a cultural technology, and connect its narratives and production processes to the larger sociocultural, historical, economic and political contexts and movements from a transnational perspective. Students will learn about the significance of animation as a cultural space that engenders these contexts and movements across cultures, as well as about its role and agency in expressing them and reacting to them.
