Courses
CHEM2056 Physical Chemistry I (3 units)
- Prerequisite:
- CHEM2005 General Chemistry
- Co-requisite:
- CHEM2007 Integrated Chemistry Tutorials II
- Medium of Instruction:
- English
This is a core course which attempts to equip chemistry students of any concentration with the fundamental concepts of chemical thermodynamics and chemical kinetics. The first two-third introduces the "Laws of Thermodynamics" and their applications in phase equilibria and solution electrochemistry. The last one-third is dedicated to introductory chemical kinetics fundamental to quantifying chemical reactions experimentally. Students successfully passing this course are strongly encouraged to also take "Physical Chemistry II (CHEM3007)" on a subsequent semester to fulfil the general requirement for pursuing Chemistry or related postgraduate degree in the future.
