ECON4035 Economics of Digital Currencies (3 units)

This course introduces the economics behind some latest development in digital currencies. It covers a variety of topics, including (1) Bitcoin and blockchain; (2) Ethereum and smart contracts; (3) Libra and token-based platforms; and (4) central bank digital currencies. Economic principles would be used to analyse and explain phenomenons observed in digital currencies. It also examines how the role of central banks and monetary polices evolve with the development of digital currencies.
