COMP7640 Database Systems and Administration (3 units)

This course is to provide an in-depth knowledge of relational database management systems (RDBMS). Topics include: conceptual modeling of a database, relational data model, relational algebra, database language SQL, relational database design, data storage, index structures, external sorting, query evaluation, transaction processing, concurrency control, and crash recovery. In addition, advanced topics such as data lake, graph databases and distributed databases will also be covered. The students will have a thorough understanding of RDBMS after taking this course.
