The scope of Chinese capitalism has continued to grow.  It not only affects individuals, and domestic economies, it now transcends international boundaries and influences global politics.  Chinese capitalisms are closely related to several themes such as governance, international relations, migration, crime, political economy, welfare and inequality.  This course examines the origin, development, and influences of Chinese capitalisms.  We will touch upon theories of capitalism, the roles of the state and market, welfare, and forms of capitalism that have emerged recently in China and other regions like Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan.  In addition, we will cover some of the theoretical discussions and debates surrounding the topics of area economy, network economy, and the share economy, with a particular focus on the role of nation state, social groups, and the individual in the context of Chinese capitalisms.
