GCST2006 A Political Economy of Global China (3 units)
This course introduces students to the political economy of global China. It aims to provide an overview of the China’s global economic activities and consequences on world economy and politics since 1978. The course identifies and examines the country’s various economic and political connections to foreign countries, regional economic mechanisms and international organisations. Through these connections, this course seeks to explore not only China’s increasing engagement in international economic activities, but also the influence of China’s international economic initiatives on world politics. Economic and international political economy concepts are employed to investigate the engagement of China with the world, and unravel the country’s influence on global politics.
