History of Chinese Medicine (CM) is a course covering the origins, formation, development process and pattern of Chinese medicine. History of medicine is a division of the history of science technology and is a combined subject of medicine and history. It belongs to applied science in the natural science discipline whereas a special history subject in the social science discipline.

The teaching objectives of history of medicine are to provide students with the knowledge in the development process and pattern of CM and bring forth a direction for students who will be engaged in CM profession. Learning history of medicine is conducive to cultivating students’ eagerness in CM and dedication to practising medicine, equipping students with the development pattern and current development of CM for defining the future development of CM, learning lessons from the history, developing students’ ability of scientific thinking and scientific research method, and enriching students’ knowledge bases.
通過對本課程的學習，能對中醫學（含中藥）各重大醫學主題的發生、發展史有所瞭解（知識）；對引起中醫學各重大醫學主題發生發展的社會因素（包括影響因素的構成、及影響方式等）亦能有所瞭解（知識）。從而對醫學發展不僅與醫學家個人有關，更受社會因素制約，能有所認識（思想意識）。對醫學發展變化的影響因素，具備一定的分析能力（分析能力）。
