Glass blowing is a highly complex and technically challenging technique utilized in the creation of glass art in the context of contemporary visual art. This course provides students with the fundamental techniques and basic practical skills of working with hot glass, and illustrates various possibilities regarding how liquid glass is manipulated and transformed into solid forms and contemporary works of art.
Through practical hands-on projects, students will explore the potential of hot glass, express their concepts and designs through the characteristic qualities of molten glass, and complete their works with cold-working techniques. Besides mastering hands-on skills, the theory and material knowledge of glass will be integrated in practical making demonstrations. Creative expression and critical thinking will be encouraged through individual tutorials, group discussions, and class critiques.
