This intermediate course aims to supplement students’ knowledge and skills on sound and video editing after they finished VART2455 Video Basics or VART2457 Sound Basics. For structuring and organising of visual and audio time-based materials, students will be introduced to some of the key computer software as used in the creative industries (gincl. Adobe Audition, Premiere, After Effects). However, software alone doesn’t make for great art. The course therefore also provides elementary studies of structure and form in experimental moving images.
The course will be conducted mostly in workshops environments to deliver skills and knowledge with actual practices: files transfer, linear editing, multiple layered image compositing, speed, colour and light manipulations, filters and effects, merging graphics into moving images, and—last but not least—sound mixing and sound filter applications.
The course aims to familiarise students with principal functions and features, and point towards solution strategies when using these editing programmes. Fluency in these skills will help students to works for various digital media at advanced levels, including single channel video art, video installation art, hypermedia, and projects of experienced design.
