VART2337 Visual Arts Work Experience (0 unit)
- Medium of Instruction:
- English
All students of the BA (Hons) in Visual Arts required to undertake a work experience within their preferred career area during their time of study. A work experience links class room theory to professional practice, and thus will provide the student with learning experiences beyond the possibilities of the programme. Such experience will be valuable for the student’s professional and personal development, and in particular very helpful in establishing and/or verifying the student’s career intentions.
As any internship is not supposed to interfere with the regular studies of the student, it will usually by taken as a summer activity during summer holiday or during term-break.
Work Experience will be self-organized by the student, in a company, corporation, or institutional body related to the creative and cultural sectors, or apprenticeship to practising artist, designer, curator and/or visual arts professionals. To fulfil the course requirement, student needs to attain a workload equivalent to minimum 70 working hours to be taken as one consecutive employment. The nature of work performed by the students during the work experience programme should reflect a reasonable professional level as would be expected in the creative and cultural sectors and to be approved by the Work Experience course coordinator.
Student has to seek approval through the Work Experience Course Coordinator prior to up-taking the position. In order to get approval, student needs to provide sufficient information about the Work Experience host – including the name and contact data of a specified supervisor from the institution – as well as about the intended nature of work during the work experience period.
After the work experience period, student is obliged to provide exhaustive documentation of the work experience, and a written testimonial from the work experience host to the Work Experience Course Coordinator. The Work Experience Course Coordinator will assess the sufficient validity of the tasks performed during the Work Experience, and declare—possibly after consultation with other academic staff—the relevancy of the Work Experience for one particular concentration. All Work Experience will be assessed. Upon completion, a ‘satisfied’ remark of Work Experience will be listed in the student’s Transcript of Records.
