The course aims to acquaint students with the scientific bases and training regimen of the sport of distance running. With the emphasis on both theory and practice of the sport, the aim is to enable the students to complete a 5K/10K safely. This course covers all essential marathon training topics, including training schedules, injury prevention strategies, nutrition, weight training, running mechanics, plus much more. Completion of a marathon is no small feat and such endeavour deserves respect and demands adequate preparation; and such endeavour will also stimulate students for self-reflection of their own choices of lifestyle practices. Through the process of training for achieving their individualized goals in distance running, the students are encouraged to develop the required discipline and the repertoire of life skills essential to the success of university life.
