UCHL1026 Home-Based Exercises: A Family Experience (2 units)
- Medium of Instruction:
- English
This course aims to acquaint students with movement basics and practical ideas for doing physical exercises with small props and in a home setting. The home setting is a good starting point for building one’s confidence in physical ability as novice exercisers sometimes feel nervous or even intimated about going to a gym. One’s home can be an ideal place to practice conditioning exercises and get an exercise habit going. Daily home-based exercise is also an integral part to any rehabilitation program; elements such as joint proprioception, balance, and flexibility could be addressed by regular home-based conditioning exercises. Students will explore different body-weight exercises which bring about similar training effects as using typical fitness equipment or machines. In addition, students will be guided to explore toning and stretching moves using daily living items such as plastic water bottles, ropes, books, towels, umbrellas, and chairs. Muscular strength and the ability to balance are vital to people of all ages if an active lifestyle is to be achieved. This course could potentially benefit the students as well as their family members as students would be asked to showcase what they have learned at home.
