SOPY4055 Challenges of Sustainable Development (3 units)

Sustainable development is being one of the popular concerns in nowadays social policy albeit it is ambiguous and fiercely contested. Those challenges are counted from alleviating poverty to improving well-being of all human mankind, and it also refers to those threats reduction arose by modernization and over-urbanization on Earth.
This course enables our students to go through an overall understanding of the key debates which have been taken place among the social sciences and science disciplines on it for years. And yet their current patterns on development and opportunities for changes are focused too. In return, social, cultural and economic activities as well as those political measures offered by the governments with their hidden ideologies will be discussed in details. The format of the course is a mixture of lectures and group projects. Students will not only be ended up with a solid knowledge acquisition on sustainable development and green social policies, but also be encouraged for ability for evaluation and outlets on its renewal possibilities for future generations.
