This course examines the production of everyday cultures results from the circulation of cultures, ideas, and practices, by exploring the global diffusion of West and South Asian cultures through the lens of Hong Kong. Students will be provided a grounding in theoretical concepts such as cultural flow, hybridity and creolization. They will apply these concepts to the diffusion and adaptation of West and South Asian art, fashion, trade, religion, gender, science and technology in the context of Hong Kong. This course also provides insights into how civilizations evolved over time and how cross-cultural exchanges continue to reshape the societies. Our inquiry into the past enhances our appreciation and understanding of the things, ideas, and lifestyles that surround us in the present day.
