GEOG7510 Resource and Environmental Management in China (3 units)

This course introduces the concepts of, and knowledge and skills in, natural resource evaluation and management in China. The course is presented in two major parts. The first part begins with the introduction to the state of China’s resources, the extent of its environmental problems, and the methods used to assess its conditions and improve sustainability. The second part presents details about the nature, distribution and utilisation of natural resources in China. These include: (1) a general survey of the resource-environment-population-development system of China; (2) the basic resource and environmental issues confronting China today, focusing especially on problems associated with energy uses, water pollution, land degradation, and deforestation; (3) the development of resource and environmental management system in China; (4) the public awareness and participation in resource and environmental protection; and (5) China's Agenda 21 and strategies for sustainable development.
