This course provides an overview of the field of public health. It introduces students to the background knowledge essential to the understanding of major public health issues and problems. Examples will be drawn from both Hong Kong and other places. Specifically, this course enables students to (1) acquire basic knowledge related to the understanding of public health and diseases; (2) comprehend the connection between science and technology and people’s understanding of health and disease; (3) comprehend the connection between personal values and culture and people’s understanding of health and disease; and (4) know the factors that contribute to improvement in public health in different countries.
