VART2556 Ceramics: Surface Treatments
Clay, as a creative studio material, allows for a broad range of different approaches; the development of contemporary ceramics attempts to utilise this characteristic to push ceramics beyond its conventional limitations defined by traditional boundaries, thus bringing multiple significances to it.
This course guides students to explore further possibilities beyond conventional training. It encourages a practical approach to creating ceramics within a more experimental context and gives students more freedom to explore the possibilities of new ceramics skills. Students will experiment with clay as artistic medium itself, as well as understanding clay’s distinctiveness from other media. By the end of the course, students will endeavour to experimentally creating ceramics with the addition of other materials by alternative firings, to find a personal way of expressing their creative ideas.
