This course provides a systematic, comprehensive survey of the principles and techniques of gathering news and presenting information for Print Journalism in Chinese. Emphasis is put on developing the students' original, creative and critical eye for what makes news. Through practical writing exercises, this course also examines the creative requirements and the special techniques required in good feature writing in Chinese. Students will learn to master and apply basic investigative tools and techniques to their own stories. The course also guides the students to develop a systematic approach to reporting and producing investigative stories. Attention is also paid to the local context to establish the basic knowledge required for professional journalists in Hong Kong.
