GFVM1016 The Art of Thinking and Living (3 units)
- Medium of Instruction:
- English
What is correct thinking? What are the principles and methods of correct thinking? Which is more important in life, money and fame, friendship or love? Is death a bad thing for us? Does life have meaning? What is the relationship between thinking correctly and living well? This course explores the complex interplay between critical thinking and living well. Students will be introduced the basic concepts and principles of correct thinking. Emphasis, however, will be given to their applications to life problems. In this connection, the course will discuss topics on life issues such as money and fame, friendship, love, death and the meaning of life, with a view to helping students understand how to apply the principles and methods of correct thinking to the life issues in question. The course will also explore how ethical perspectives such as the ethical perspectives of Aristotle, Confucianism and Daoism could affect people’s style of decision-making and problem-solving in dealing with the issues.
