COMM1015 Introduction to Media and Communication (3 units)

The purpose of this course is to introduce students who have had no prior experience with the field of communication to its diverse areas of study and its fundamental concepts. The course introduces different aspects of communication that includes interpersonal, intercultural, and mediated communication. Two types of mediated communication - journalism and film- will be covered by looking at their structures and principles and their roles in the society. It will provide a common foundation for students in the School of Communication by presenting a coherent vocabulary for talking about communication. By taking this course, students will be able to identify, describe, and analyse communicative events around them and to respond in appropriate and effective ways.
