The course provides basic, fundamental training the Classical Chinese focusing on relevant cultural background knowledge, bibliography, and the linguistic features including Chinese character, vocabulary, grammar, punctuation, and semantics.  Through intensive reading and topical discussion of ancient and pre-modern Chinese prose writings, students' literacy in Chinese language and knowledge of traditional Chinese culture will be enhanced.  The course also provides training in using multimedia resources for further study of the language and culture.
