JOUR2107 Introduction to Journalism and Communications (3 units)
The purpose of this course is to introduce students who have had no prior experience with the field of communication to its diverse areas of study and its fundamental concepts. The course introduces different aspects of communication including interpersonal, intercultural, and mediated communication. Two types of mediation communication, journalism and film, will be covered by looking at their structures and principles and their roles in the society. This course will provide a common foundation for students in the School of Communication by presenting a coherent vocabulary for talking about communication. By taking this course, students will be able to identify, describe, and analyze communicative events around them and to respond in appropriate and effective ways.
